[The supporting villainess who meets the heroine's online boyfriend in her place will be the first person the wealthy male lead destroys once he learns the truth!] The floating comments appeared just as my 220pound roommate offered to sell me her online boyfriend for fifty dollars.
She admitted that she had been stealing my pictures all along, but insisted that he had fallen for me anyway. The comments still defended her.
They said that once she lost weight, she would become a knockout. I looked at the screen of her phone and smiled. "Fifty is too much.
How about five?" Chapter 1 "Are you insane?" Kaitlyn Thornton shrieked. "My boyfriend is loaded!
I'm only selling him to you for fifty bucks because you're broke, and you still have the nerve to haggle?" I calmly set down the phone that had come free with my prepaid plan and glanced at her. "You're asking me to clean up your mess.
You're lucky I'm not charging you." "You!" Kaitlyn's broad chest heaved with anger.
I admired the elegant manicure I'd gotten by serving as a practice model and made a new offer. "Two dollars.
If you don't take it now, you can buy me a conveniencestore slushie instead." Kaitlyn wasn't the only one struck speechless. The comments began to roll in. [I can't.
How is the supporting villainess this shameless?] [The male lead happens to be coming to Cedar Point City for a business deal, so he asked to meet the heroine.
There was no way she could keep the truth hidden.] So that was it. I smiled deliberately and asked, "What?
Are you buying me a slushie?" Kaitlyn lowered her head with a vicious glare and sent me the username and password. "You don't have to pay me.
Just remember that you're meeting him tomorrow." I gave her my sweetest smile. "Thanks." I was sick of being broke. It was finally my turn to cash in.
I raced through the chat history on the account.
Kaitlyn and Derek Wexler talked about everything, from an unknown flower by the side of the road to investments made by Derek's family. The one constant was Kaitlyn's sweetness.
She knew exactly what to say to make him feel good. When I reached today's messages, I found one from him that she had not answered.
After careful thought, I took screenshots of the conversation and sent them to an AI assistant. [Help me reply as his girlfriend.
Make it sweet and gentle.] I pasted its responses into the chat one by one. Derek's replies were cool, but fortunately, he did not question anything.
He even sent me the address of the Michelinstarred restaurant where we were meeting tomorrow. I breathed a sigh of relief. Then I heard faint sobbing from the bunk above me.
Kaitlyn hid under her covers and cried for a long time while the comments kept comforting her. [Does the author really have to torture the heroine like this?] [Without the supporting villainess provoking her, the heroine would never lose weight, turn gorgeous, make the male lead fall in love at first sight, and get the perfect groveling arc.] [Poor baby!
It's also the supporting villainess's fault for being so cheap. She'll even snap up a boyfriend somebody else dumped on her.] Oh. So that was the role I was supposed to play.
The comments stirred up a nameless anger in me. I decided I would not listen to them. I would not provoke Kaitlyn.
Smiling, I tipped my face toward the upper bunk and asked the crying Kaitlyn, "How about I sell you the rights to my pictures?
You can keep talking to him, and I'll only go to the meetup in your place.
If he tries to kiss or hug me, I'll turn him down." "Of course, I get half of whatever money you make from him." Chapter 2 Before Kaitlyn could answer, the comments erupted. [Does this supporting villainess think our heroine has no resolve?] [She doesn't know jack.
Our baby truly loves the male lead.
That's why she refuses to keep talking to him from behind someone else's face.] [So what if the supporting villainess meets him while pretending to be our baby?
Once the heroine loses weight, the male lead will still fall for her at first sight!] I finally understood. In the eyes of those commenters, anything I did would be wrong.
Kaitlyn poked her head through the curtains around her bunk. Her eyes were swollen from crying, but her voice was hard and stubborn. "No need. He's just a man.
You can have him." She yanked the curtains shut again. I blinked. "Oh. Okay, then.
Gladly." The next day, I put on the only decent dress I owned and swept into the restaurant at the appointed time. The server opened the door to the private dining room.
The man inside turned his head and looked at me. He had an exceptionally handsome face.
Surprise flashed through his eyes when he saw me, but his tone was light, almost strangely amused. "Halo…so it's you?" He lowered his gaze with a faint scoff. That struck me as odd.
Kaitlyn had sent him countless pictures of me, some stolen from my PartyQuest feed and others taken without my knowledge. They showed me from every imaginable angle.
There was no way he had failed to recognize me. Why did he sound so surprised?
I kept smiling as I walked over and teased Derek. "Babe, am I that hard to recognize in person?" Just then, a timid voice came from behind me. "What a coincidence, Marina Blue.
You're eating here too?" The familiar voice stiffened my spine. I turned around. Kaitlyn stood behind me, carefully dressed but haggard.
She must have followed me here and spent a long time working up the nerve to come inside. She tugged at the hem of my dress and asked hesitantly, "You two have a private room?
Can I eat with you?" I frowned and looked at Derek. I was not the one paying. His gaze settled on Kaitlyn. Her face flushed at once, and she lowered her head shyly.
Then Derek said in a lazy tone, "That wouldn't be appropriate." Kaitlyn stared up at him in disbelief.
He raised an eyebrow. "Ma'am, this is the first time my online girlfriend and I have met in person…" The comments boiled over with resentment. [My heart aches for our baby.
She's the one he should have invited to sit there!] [Ugh, just thinking about the supporting villainess going on dates with the male lead every day and breaking the heroine's heart makes me hate her even more.] I could hardly take their nonsense.
Kaitlyn had handed me the account and asked me to clean up her mess. At worst, I was picking through someone else's leftovers.
How had she somehow become the injured party in their eyes? Kaitlyn's eyes reddened. I sighed inwardly. Fine. She had given me the boyfriend without charging me, after all.
I turned a pitiful look on Derek. "Babe, she helped me pick up a lot of the things you ordered for me before…" In truth, I had been the one picking things up for Kaitlyn.
Derek's gaze grew even more knowing. "If we've troubled her that many times, then of course we have to buy her dinner." As if she had been granted a pardon, Kaitlyn carefully took the seat beside me. "I won't be intruding, will I?" I shook my head.
But when the server brought the menu and Derek politely passed it to us, Kaitlyn suddenly sighed.
Chapter 3 "Everything at a Michelinstarred restaurant is so refined, but honestly, it always feels a little stiff to me.
It doesn't have much warmth." Kaitlyn looked up and gave Derek an apparently casual smile. "I still prefer food trucks and little diners.
I can relax more easily there." My heart skipped. Of course Kaitlyn was the one who could grow up eating delicacies and still prefer foodtruck fare. Her family had money.
I was the one with a castiron stomach from years of cheap conveniencestore food, sometimes with a bonus fly in the summer.
The comments started to catch on. [Whoa, that sounds familiar…] [Isn't that exactly what our baby told the male lead in their chats?
He even praised her for knowing how to enjoy life!] [Ahhh, our baby is dropping hints!
She's telling him she's the one who talked to him all this time!] Derek's fingers stopped tapping the table for a moment.
To my surprise, one elaborate dish after another arrived, and he never took Kaitlyn's bait. His expression remained cool and unreadable.
I happily picked up my vintage digital camera and snapped several pictures of the table, the view through the floortoceiling windows, and my profile as I raised my glass.
That was enough to satisfy me. Kaitlyn was not nearly as satisfied. She kept drawing me into conversations about opinions she had expressed through the account. I was not stupid.
Kaitlyn weighed around 220 pounds. Before she lost weight, she would never dare admit that she was Derek's online girlfriend. She was only trying to send me a private warning.
Derek loved her. But as he remained unmoved, her smile grew increasingly strained.
She tried to continue, but he abruptly cut her off. "Halo told you all that?" Derek lifted his wineglass and studied the pale gold liquid with an almost mocking smile.
His attention made Kaitlyn nervous, but it pleased her even more. A faint blush rose to her cheeks. "Nnot that much.
Just little things, like the music you enjoy and that cat you have. She told me you're a really, really good person." I took a blankfaced sip of soup.
I did not want to imagine what Derek now thought of his online girlfriend. Apparently, she told her roommate everything.
The comments grew excited. [Oh my God, our heroine actually takes initiative!
She's no pushover.] Some of the others poured cold water on that enthusiasm. [Does anyone really want the male lead to recognize our baby right now? Please, no!
He'll think she's an ugly liar!] Kaitlyn's gaze fixed on empty air. Her face suddenly went white, and her hands clenched in panic. Derek set down his glass.
He smiled faintly, but there was ice beneath it. "Really?
From everything you've said, I suppose she never told you that nothing irritates me more than a guest criticizing the person paying for dinner." The room fell silent.
That was brutal. I gave Derek an apologetic smile, then dragged the devastated, crying Kaitlyn outside.
Once the door shut behind us, I bent toward her ear with a cold expression. "You want him to recognize you, don't you, Kaitlyn?
Then go back in there and tell him the truth right now. I won't stop you." Her body stiffened.
I came straight to the point. "Otherwise, make an excuse and leave." At last she lifted her head, looking hurt and furious. "How can you do this? You won't even let me see him once.
You're so selfish!" The comments immediately began talking over one another.
Chapter 4 [Does the supporting villainess think the male lead will like her if she keeps him from seeing the heroine?] [Please. The male lead doesn't care about a pretty face.
He loves the person who talks to him every day, and that's our baby heroine.] [If our baby didn't make herself so small whenever she loved someone, the supporting villainess would never have gotten a chance!] My answer was to grab Kaitlyn's hand. "If you don't leave, I'll go back inside and tell Derek that you're actually his online girlfriend." I started toward the door.
Kaitlyn went white with fear. She quickly said goodbye to Derek, clutched her stomach, claimed she felt sick, and left. Derek gave a cool nod.
But after we finished dinner, he suddenly said, "Next time we meet, Marina, don't bring your roommate." After a pause, he held out one longfingered hand. "You took a lot of pictures today, didn't you?" I nodded.
His next words followed immediately. "Sell me all of them. Fifteen hundred dollars apiece." Every ounce of my irritation melted like butter.
Wasn't this exactly what I had been waiting for? From the chat history, I knew Derek and Kaitlyn had met through a guild on PartyQuest.
The first time she sent him a picture of me, he transferred her fifteen thousand dollars. He was extraordinarily generous.
Kaitlyn had even taken a revealing picture of me without my knowledge and messaged him: [My roommate secretly took this picture of me…] Derek had replied: [Aren't you afraid I'll do something naughty while looking at it?] Kaitlyn: [Oh my God, you're embarrassing me!] The comments floated past my eyes in outrage. [Rubbing my hands!
The supporting villainess is here for her last meal.] [Once our baby loses weight and tells him the truth, the devoted male lead will feel even more protective of the heroine who suffered in silence.] [As for the supporting villainess who met him in our baby's place?
She'll pay it back tenfold. The male lead could make someone disappear in a strange city without anyone knowing.] So what? Money did not stink.
I handed every picture to Derek and returned to the dorm in a wonderful mood. Kaitlyn began trying to lose weight.
She went straight into an extreme liquidonly diet, rotating milk, coffee, and yogurt. She managed to starve herself until her vision went black in gym class and she nearly fainted.
My other two roommates and I quickly helped her to the campus health center. She only recovered after fluids and a period of observation.
The moment she saw me, she turned her face away and began crying. I frowned. Our roommates, Rebecca Jennings and Lily Grant, anxiously asked what had happened between us.
Years of telling people secrets in school, warning them not to tell anyone, and being betrayed every single time had taught me caution.
I shook my head. "Maybe it's because she asked me to bring her food last time, and I brought her a cheesesteak with fries." Honestly, that still made me mad.
It was only the second day of Kaitlyn's extreme liquid diet. How was I supposed to know she was trying to lose weight?
She asked me to pick up food, so I brought her the same thing I had just eaten.
When Kaitlyn saw the cheesesteak and fries, she flew into a rage and demanded to know if I was trying to ruin all her hard work.
The comments made equally vicious assumptions about me. [The supporting villainess is dead set on being the third wheel.
Too bad she's destined to get dumped.] [Once our baby becomes a total knockout, the male lead will start having filthy dreams about her the very day he sees her.] [The supporting villainess may be the one whose eyes go unfocused, but the male lead will only be thinking about the heroine.] Yes, Derek was rich.
But I only wanted to make some money from him. I had never planned to chain myself to the man. I apologized to Kaitlyn. Chapter 5 "I'm sorry.
I shouldn't have brought you that cheesesteak and fries." "If you want to lose weight, you can ask me for help, Kaitlyn.
Don't starve yourself." She stopped crying and fixed me with a cold stare. "If it weren't for you…" She cut herself off.
A moment later, she asked, "Would you really teach me how to lose weight?" I nodded. Those nineteen pictures had earned me twentyeight thousand five hundred dollars.
I was honestly rather grateful to her. "You said it," Kaitlyn warned. From then on, she followed my advice.
She ate eggs and corn for breakfast, lean protein and carbohydrates for lunch, and a small serving of vegetables and protein for dinner.
She also began asking about my clothes and makeup. I held nothing back.
I told her about the secondhand clothing store I frequented, the makeup samples I bought, and how to order cheap fruit through a grocerystore app for pickup the next day, then cut it up and arrange it in a pretty container.
The corner of her mouth twitched. Then she asked why every picture on my PartyQuest feed was a phone photo of my vintage digital camera's screen.
I rubbed my nose in embarrassment. "My phone's camera is terrible.
It has this weird builtin beauty filter that smears everything, so I take pictures with my vintage camera and then use my phone to photograph its screen.
That way, people can't tell how bad my phone is." That used camera now sold for a hundred or two hundred dollars. When Mom gave it to me, it had cost only nine.
Kaitlyn lost fifteen pounds in a month, most noticeably from her face. She did have naturally beautiful features.
At nearly five foot nine, even at 205 pounds, anyone could see that she was pretty.
The comments were thrilled. [At this rate, the heroine will slim down in no time!] [The male lead looks so cold, but his sex drive is actually intense.
I can't wait for our baby to get a taste of him!] [I bet they'll see each other again soon.
The male lead still hasn't left Cedar Point City.] As if the comments had encouraged her, Kaitlyn's broad face flushed. She threw even more energy into her daily workouts.
Derek truly had not left Cedar Point City. He often asked me out, but I rarely agreed. So he sent enough roses to fill our dorm room, along with beautiful custom designer clothes.
Every delivery made my roommates green with envy. Kaitlyn never said a word. Derek was staying in Cedar Point City for more than business.
He also led a guild on PartyQuest, and its members were planning an inperson gathering in the city.
With a wave of his hand, he booked an entire hotel ballroom and offered room and board to every guild member who came.
Naturally, I was invited too, since I now controlled Kaitlyn's account. I could not decide whether to go. I had turned Derek down quite a few times already.
Besides, with that many people around, he could hardly get handsy with me in public.
While I was still debating, Rebecca Jennings pulled me into the hall and lowered her voice. "Blue, what's going on between you and Kaitlyn?" "What?" Rebecca sighed and thrust her phone screen in front of me. "Do you know what people in the other classes are saying about you?
Somebody in one of my general education classes said there's a girl in our dorm who's such a slut that she used her pretty face to steal her roommate's rich online boyfriend." "They're saying he mistook you for her, but you never corrected him.
You knew you didn't even know the guy, and you happily let him pursue you anyway." The rumor was detailed enough to sound almost true.
Chapter 6 My reputation was already ruined, so I gave Rebecca a brief explanation. She patted my shoulder. "Kaitlyn was the one who wanted to hand him over to you, wasn't she?
Of course you took the offer. No wonder you've been treating us to such expensive restaurants lately.
So this is how you've been making your fortune." "This mess is almost impossible to explain to anyone else.
If Lily and I didn't already know what kind of person you are…" I did not know whether Kaitlyn had started the rumor.
I went back into the dorm room and poked her as she sat at her desk. "Why don't you go to the guild gathering yourself?
You can meet Derek there and explain everything." Kaitlyn bit her lower lip and turned away. "Marina, why are you pretending to be so generous?" For a second, it was as if I no longer understood human speech. "What?" She continued, "If you were really kind, you never would have agreed in the first place." I stared at her in disbelief. "If you'd met Derek yourself back then, do you think he would have spoken to you ever again?" If I found out that my online girlfriend was actually a 220pound guy, I would want to die too.
Kaitlyn gave a mocking snort. "You never consider anyone else's feelings. I'm already torn apart and miserable, and I still have to watch Derek chase after you.
It's unbearable." I raised a hand to stop her. "Are you going to see him or not?" "Why would I go? To watch the two of you act sweet together?" she asked coldly.
Then she looked at me with condescending pity. "Don't get too pleased with yourself. You won't have him for long." I was so angry that I laughed. "Fine.
If you're not going, I am." The guild gathering was held in a ballroom on the top floor of the most expensive hotel in Cedar Point City.
I wore the custom dress Derek had given me because I could not bear to buy one myself. The moment I entered, I saw him through the crowd.
He looked cool and weary as people gathered around him like courtiers around a king. He paused and raised his eyes to me, but did not come over. I understood perfectly.
Turning him down several times had annoyed him. Someone asked, "Mr. Wexler, is your online girlfriend here tonight?" "I've seen the pictures she posted in the gaming community.
She's gorgeous! You two are perfect together." "She's here," Derek said mildly. Just then, I saw someone who should not have been there.
Kaitlyn was chatting and laughing with another girl, probably a friend from the guild. I had studied only Derek's messages.
I had barely looked at anyone else, though I gave simple, polite answers whenever someone contacted me. Suddenly, the two of them met my eyes.
The other girl rolled hers without hesitation. My heart jumped. Kaitlyn was about to cause trouble. I turned for the door at once, but she rushed over and seized me.
The commotion drew every eye in the ballroom. The harder I pulled away, the tighter she gripped me.
With tears in her eyes, she looked at Derek. "Derek, there's something I have to tell you." "Marina Blue stole my account. She's only using you for your money.
She doesn't understand the connection you and I share." Her voice trembled, but she stubbornly lifted her chin. "I'm the one who spent three months talking to you online until late every night.
Marina is only my roommate." "I was too insecure back then. She stole my identity and went to meet you without my permission, and I was too afraid to stand up and accuse her.
All I could do was quietly work to become a better version of myself." Chapter 7 "I've changed now.
I want to fight for myself for once." "You can be angry with me, but could you…look at me again?" The ballroom was silent for several seconds.
The comments exploded. [Our baby heroine is confessing already? She's making herself so humble. My heart breaks for her.
The male lead will feel awful for her too!] [I understand her completely. A secret crush can turn one person's whole world into a war zone.
When the boy I liked got a girlfriend, I didn't dare do anything either.
I could only fill a notebook with curses against that girl…] As though they had encouraged her, Kaitlyn straightened her back even further.
With every eye on him, the ballroom lights reflected in Derek's cold eyes. Then he spoke. "You're the fat roommate who ate with my girlfriend that day
