I slept with the second male lead. The next morning, he handed me a check for five million dollars.
A second later, live comments floated in the air right in front of my eyes. [Harrison is so pitiful.
After finding out the female lead got married, he gave away his entire fortune and burned himself alive in his house.] [This random extra could have at least left him an heir since she got pregnant with his kid.
Who knew she was just in it for his body and took the money to run?] My muscles locked up.
I yanked my hand back, leaving the check hovering between us. "Five million dollars might not be enough to raise a child." Harrison stared at me. "Since when does it cost that much to raise a kid?!" Some time later, Harrison won an absurdly expensive jewelry set at an auction.
A reporter asked if it was a birthday gift for Madeline. Harrison rolled his eyes. "This is for my daughter's future wedding. Raising a kid is expensive.
Don't you know anything?" Chapter 1 Harrison saw I didn't take the check. He looked down at my flat stomach. "It was just one night. You might not even be pregnant.
Or… I could buy you the pill right now." "I'm allergic. I'll go into anaphylactic shock." I shook my head. "What if I actually am pregnant?
Are you just going to dodge all responsibility and leave me and the kid to fend for ourselves with a measly five million dollars?" "If you are, you can always get an—" Harrison cut himself off, looking uneasy. "How could you be so vicious?" I glared at him. "You want to kill a baby before it even gets a chance to see the world?" "Besides, my body is weak.
I can't handle an abortion. If I get one, I'll never be able to get pregnant again." Harrison looked even more torn. I didn't push him.
I just let out a heavy sigh and slid off the edge of the bed. "Forget it.
If I really am pregnant, I'll just have the baby and put it up for adoption." "Growing up in foster care is brutal, though.
And if it's a girl, people will make things even harder for her." I looked away. "But I guess that's just her fate." "Wait." Harrison reached out and grabbed my wrist. "Just… check if you're pregnant first.
If you are, we'll figure something out. Keep the money for now." He shoved the check back into my hand. That worked. It bought us some time.
He wasn't going to kill himself right away. I took the money, swapped numbers with him, and walked out the door.
The moment I stepped outside, the live comments floated in the air again. [Why is the plot changing? Is it because of this random extra?] [Whatever.
At least he survived for now.] [Harrison is so pitiful. He was abused his whole childhood.
Madeline was the only one who showed him any kindness.] [That's why he treats her as his first love.
He worked himself to the bone to build his empire just for her.] [But she just treats him like a backup. She calls him when she needs him and tosses him aside when she doesn't.
I really hope he can move on and stop wanting to die.] I stared at the text. It really would be a waste if a guy that handsome killed himself. I decided to keep him alive.
Over the next two weeks, I used Harrison's five million dollars to drastically upgrade my life. The comments kept popping up. They said his condition was deteriorating.
Chapter 2 Whenever the live comments warned me, I texted him. I told him my body felt off.
I told him I was definitely pregnant. "Have you tested yet?" His reply always came instantly. "Not yet," I typed back. He would go silent.
Then, the next time he wanted to die, I sent another message. We kept up this routine. Until two weeks later. I went to the hospital for an ultrasound.
The moment the results came out, the live comments flooded my vision. [It is over! Madeline and Nicholas are getting married today!
And they actually sent Harrison an invitation!] [He watched them acting all loveydovey. It broke him. He is losing it.
He is about to go home and swallow a bottle of pills!] [What do we do? Harrison, please do not die!] A jolt went through me.
I pulled up Harrison's number, snapped a picture of the ultrasound, and sent it to him. "I am pregnant," I typed. "You are not going to bail on us, are you?" Silence.
A few agonizing seconds passed before his reply popped up. "Where are you?" I sent him the hospital address. He got there in less than half an hour.
He stared at the printout in my hand. His eyes were unfocused. He looked lost. He stared at the paper for a long time, then slowly shifted his gaze to my flat stomach.
I laughed. "It has only been two weeks. The baby has not even formed yet. What are you expecting to see?" I did not wait for him to answer. "You promised.
You said if I got pregnant, you would take responsibility." "If you do not care, I will just give it to a random family for adoption the second it is born." "I never said I would not care." Harrison snapped out of his daze.
He shook his head sharply. He hesitated for a second, then turned toward the exit. "You… just come back to my house first." I did not argue. I just followed him.
He lived in a standalone villa in the suburbs, nestled against the mountains by a lake. The view was gorgeous. Even the air smelled crisp. I walked inside and made myself at home.
I looked around. It was perfect. "The environment is nice. I will live here from now on." I looked at him. "Also, I have never been pregnant.
We need to hire a few maids with maternity experience. Do you have a problem with that?" "No." Harrison shook his head slowly.
He pulled out his phone and ordered someone to find the staff. I nodded. Just like that, I moved into his house. The maids Harrison hired for a fortune were toptier.
Every day, they cooked different nutritious meals meant for pregnant women. They walked me through all the pregnancy precautions. They handled everything perfectly.
Harrison barely showed his face. He spent most of the day locked in his room. Late one night, I woke up with a start.
The live comments were scrolling rapidly again. [Ever since Madeline and Nicholas got married, she has been showing off their relationship online every single day.
Nicholas feeds her one bite of food, and she writes a whole essay about it…] [Harrison watches them show off every day.
He is breaking down again.] [If this keeps up, I am terrified even the baby will not be enough to keep him alive.] I frowned.
I threw off the covers, walked straight to his door, and knocked. A long moment passed. The door finally opened.
He looked completely exhausted. "I just threw up," I lied with a straight face. "My stomach is killing me. I am starving.
Go make me something to eat." Confusion washed over his devastated face. "I do not know how to cook." "Then find a tutorial and learn." Chapter 3 "The maids are already asleep," I said, staring at him like it was obvious. "Do you expect a pregnant woman to go into the kitchen and cook for herself?
It is too dangerous." "What if I bump into something and—" "I will go." Harrison cut me off.
He trudged into the kitchen, pulled up a tutorial on his phone, and clumsily boiled a bowl of noodles.
I took one bite and dropped my fork. "This tastes worse than shit." Harrison looked baffled. "Is it really that bad?" "Try it yourself." I pushed the bowl toward him.
He picked up a fork, took a small bite, and spat it out with a deadpan expression.
He looked at me hesitantly. "Should I order delivery?" "We are in the suburbs." I rolled my eyes. "By the time the food gets here, it will be time for breakfast." "Then what should I do?" "What do you think?
Go make another bowl." I shooed him back into the kitchen. I made him cook seven bowls of noodles that night. By the seventh bowl, it was finally edible.
I took two bites. "I am full." Harrison stared at me in silence. I ignored him, let out a yawn, and headed back to my room. "I am tired. Going to bed.
You should get some sleep too." The two hours of kitchen torture finally caught up with him. Exhaustion washed over his face. He nodded and went to his room to sleep.
The live comments were practically crying with laughter. [I cannot. She is working him so hard he does not even have time to be depressed.] [It is true.
Keep a man busy, and his brain has no room for anything else.] [At first, I thought this random extra was too demanding. Now?
Please keep torturing him.] A small smile tugged at my lips. I was just getting started. The next morning, the maid made breakfast.
I only took a few bites before marching over to Harrison's door and knocking.
He opened it, sporting two massive dark circles under his eyes. "I cannot eat the breakfast the maid made," I told him. "I want pumpkin soup.
Look up a recipe and make some for me." He was too sleepdeprived to process my words. He just stood there. I lifted my foot and stepped on his shoe. "Go." That snapped him awake.
He had no choice but to obey. Cooking soup took a lot more effort than boiling noodles. Since it was his first time, he had to stand by the stove and watch it the entire time.
Once it was done, I took a few bites to settle my stomach, then dropped my next demand. "For lunch, I want steamed fish, poached chicken, and braised ribs." I rattled off seven or eight different dishes, then turned to look at him. "And you are making them yourself.
Better start learning from the maid now." I let out another yawn, stood up, and went back to my room to catch up on sleep. When I woke up at noon, lunch was ready.
With the maid guiding him, the food was not exactly a culinary masterpiece, but it was perfectly edible. From that day on, cooking for me became his permanent job.
I only ate his food. If he ever tried to slack off and let the maid do it, I would take one bite and immediately spit it out. I told him the baby only wanted his cooking.
He did not dare cut corners after that. He made every single meal himself. He spent most of his day either learning from the maid or watching tutorials.
Any spare time he had went straight to handling his company's business. He had zero time left to obsess over Madeline's life. And he definitely had no time to think about dying.
Chapter 4 That evening after dinner, I grabbed a small bowl.
I saved a portion of the food from the table and put it in the kitchen warmer. "Are you still hungry?" Harrison looked at me in confusion. I shook my head. "This is for you.
You cooked all day and barely ate a thing. When you wake up starving in the middle of the night, you can eat this." He was still in a bad mental state.
Even though he slept better now that I kept him busy, he still had no appetite.
The live comments mentioned that back in his startup days, he ruined his stomach from starving himself and binge drinking.
He used to wake up at night in severe pain from stomach cramps.
Harrison froze. "I do not need—" "Eat it when I tell you to." I cut him off, leaving no room for argument. "Your face is turning green from starving. You look like a ghost.
If you suddenly drop dead from a stomach ulcer, who is going to take care of me and the baby?" Harrison opened his mouth, then closed it. He had to compromise.
I made sure the food was warm and went to bed. When I woke up the next morning, the food and the chicken soup in the pot were completely gone. I finally smiled.
As time passed, my belly grew bigger by the day. Harrison seemed fascinated by it. His eyes were constantly glued to my stomach.
Ever since the fivemonth mark when the baby started moving, his curiosity peaked. He stared like he wanted to attach his eyes to my skin. Today, the baby kicked me again.
I looked at Harrison's unblinking gaze and laughed. "Do you want to feel it?" "What?" I did not say another word. I grabbed his hand and pressed it flat against my lower stomach.
A few seconds later, the baby kicked again. Harrison felt the thump against his palm. Shock quickly melted into pure wonder. After a long moment, he could not resist.
He leaned down and pressed his ear against my belly. He acted like he could hear a tiny heartbeat. "Its heart… is beating." He looked up at me, his eyes shining.
I laughed harder. "No kidding. It would be a huge problem if it was not." Harrison gave a goofy smile and leaned right back down to listen again.
As my belly grew, his attitude towards me and the baby completely shifted. In the beginning, he treated it like a mere responsibility. It seemed like the baby was not real to him.
But now, at least towards this baby… I could tell he had developed a genuine attachment
