Preview · Chapter 1

It was our wedding anniversary. I cut my overseas trip short, eager to surprise my husband. The second I unlocked the front door, wet, heavy panting drifted from the master bedroom.

Blood rushed to my ears. I stormed down the hall, ready to tear the door open and confront Silas. I shoved the handle down. No cheating husband.

Just two dogs tangled together on the rug, going at it. My phone buzzed in my palm. A text from Silas. "Honey, don't go in the bedroom. I brought in a couple of strays.

Be careful, they might bite." Guilt clamped down on my chest. I pinched the bridge of my nose, cursing my own paranoid brain.

Then, glowing words materialized out of thin air. [Good thing the male lead reacted fast!

Using the system to redeem two Transformation Pills and turn himself and the female lead into dogs was a genius move.] [Otherwise, if that psycho Astrid kicked him to the curb, how would he ever get the seed money for his comeback?] The air evaporated from my lungs.

The two mutts on the floor weren't just dogs. They were Silas and Maeve. I stared at the animals still humping on my rug. A sharp laugh scraped out of my throat.

My thumb flew across my phone screen, dialing the vet clinic. "Hi." I kept my eyes locked on the dogs. "I need to book a double spay and neuter.

Immediately." Chapter 1 When the glowing text materialized in midair, I froze. My gaze snapped back to the two dogs, still tangled together on my rug.

As if sensing my stare, the floating words went into a frenzy. [Doing the deed right under the psycho wife's nose.

So thrilling!] [The male lead is scared to death, but he can't bear to pull out of his sweet little nanny… tsk, tsk.

This is true love!] [NGL, I just want to fastforward to when he's loaded and the psycho is on her knees begging him to spare her parents… I can't stand this weak underdog phase!] [Plus one!

Never underestimate a guy just because he's broke right now!] The lines of text blurred past, chilling the blood in my veins.

According to these comments, I was nothing but the villainous exwife in a ragstoriches revenge story.

Relying on my family's wealth, I supposedly forced Silas, the "Chosen One," into a trophy marriage just to humiliate him with my money.

To get even, he swallowed his pride, conspired with outsiders, and gutted my authority piece by piece.

By the time I realized what was happening, he had used his "System" to become the undisputed CEO of my family's empire. The shock sent my parents to the ICU, clinging to life.

And Silas? He blacklisted them. He threatened to ruin any hospital that dared to admit them.

Backed into a corner, heavily pregnant, I supposedly dropped to my knees at his feet, begging for my parents' lives. He only spat at me. A fight broke out.

He shoved me down a flight of stairs. Two lives, snuffed out in an instant, tying up his loose ends. And Silas? The golden boy unlocked god mode. His business skyrocketed.

He married his sweet, submissive female lead, Maeve, and lived out his ultimate fantasy—a trophy wife at home, and a harem on the side. Ice water flooded my spine.

I stared at the floating words, my fingernails biting so hard into my palms they almost broke skin. It was absurd. I forced him? Silas had hounded me for months.

He practically begged to sign the prenup, kneeling outside my family's estate in the pouring rain for twentyfour hours straight until my parents finally caved.

On our wedding day, he swore on his life to cherish me forever, praying he'd rot in hell and die childless if he ever betrayed me.

If these comments hadn't nailed so many hyperspecific details of our past, I would never have believed it.

The man who supposedly worshipped the ground I walked on was plotting my murder. The floating text exploded into another frenzy, snapping me back to reality. I blinked.

The two dogs on my rug had switched positions. [Holy shit, he's intentionally pushing her closer to Astrid's feet… Is this premium content for free?] [Inject this straight into my veins!

But why isn't the psycho leaving yet? The Transformation Pill only lasts an hour. If he shifts back to human form right in front of her, he's dead meat!] [True.

Honestly, without Astrid's wealth and status, the 'Chosen One' system would never have locked onto him in the first place, right?!] [Are you insane?

Do you even understand the Alpha Male genre? He's the Chosen One!

Even if he literally stayed a stray dog on the street, the System would still make him a billionaire!] The comments warred with each other, scrolling at lightspeed.

I read every word. The corners of my mouth twitched upward into a sharp, bloodless smile. The Chosen One?

A parasitic golddigger who climbed to the top over the corpses of my family isn't chosen by fate. He's just a pest waiting to be exterminated. Chapter 2 Today, we'd see who won.

The socalled Chosen One, or the vet's surgical blade. I pulled up my messages and texted my assistant.

Ten minutes later, she stepped into the hallway holding a hardshell pet carrier.

Only then did I press the microphone icon in Silas's chat, deliberately projecting my voice. "Honey, I found them.

They're adorable." I paused, letting the silence stretch. "I'm adopting them both. But the male seems a little too riled up.

I'm taking him in to get fixed today." The two dogs on the rug instantly froze. The floating text exploded. [Are you kidding me?

This toxic bitch is actually going to castrate the male lead! That's her husband!] [Don't panic. He's the Chosen One.

Even trapped in a dog's body, he'll find a way to escape her evil clutches!] [Exactly. Even if no one comes to the rescue, he still has the System! Astrid is just cannon fodder.

I refuse to believe she can cause real damage!] A wave of mockery washed over the screen, but a few lines of text flickered with genuine panic. [Hold on, what kind of Alpha Male story has a eunuch for a protagonist?

If he actually gets his junk chopped off, the System will definitely drop him for a new host. Will he still be the Chosen One then?] [For real.

If Silas fails, there's always Hayes, Pierce, or Lance waiting in the wings. But a guy only gets one dick. Once it's gone, it's gone…] Silas clearly saw those comments too.

The male dog scrambled backward, detaching from Maeve with his tail tucked tight against his belly, dodging my assistant's outstretched hands. I didn't give him an inch.

My assistant and I cornered them from both sides, effortlessly grabbing the cheating pair by the scruffs of their necks.

Once they were shoved inside the plastic carrier, their desperate howling echoed down the hall, making me look like a sadistic animal abuser.

The glowing text continued to scroll relentlessly. Most comments hurled vicious curses at me, eagerly anticipating the moment Silas would break out and put me in my place.

But a few comments inadvertently translated the frantic barking coming from inside the carrier. [The male lead's trash talk is filthy right now.

He still has forty minutes before he reverts to human form, and he's already planning exactly how to punish Astrid.] [Lmao, classic male lead behavior!

He's going to pick a massive fight with her, secure a huge payout to smooth things over, and use the silent treatment as an excuse to shack up with Maeve for a few days.

Two birds, one stone!] I ignored every word. The moment we pulled into the vet clinic, I shoved the carrier into the doctor's hands and demanded an emergency spay and neuter.

But just as the vet dragged Silas toward the operating room doors, the floating text, which had gone dormant for a few minutes, flared back to life. [Here we go!

Thank god the System has a builtin comms feature.

He just contacted Summer, the female supporting character interning at this exact clinic, to come save him!] [Since he paid for her tuition, Summer is head over heels for him.

She'd literally take a bullet for him. I'd love to see how the psycho wife tries to hurt him now!] I stared at the glowing letters. A sharp scoff scraped my throat.

Paid her tuition? As far as I knew, Silas had never paid a dime for anyone.

Chapter 3 I was the one who signed the endowment checks for struggling students through my family's foundation.

Silas must have slapped his own name on the paperwork behind my back, brainwashing some naive college kid into blind devotion. Right on cue.

I blinked, my focus snapping back to the present just as a girl in green scrubs planted herself directly in my path. Her jaw was locked tight.

Summer, clearly. "You're the one ordering the spay and neuter?" She pointed at the carrier. "I won't allow it." The floating text instantly worshipped her badass energy.

A dry sigh escaped my lips. Were these commenters actual NPCs? Staging a dramatic standoff in the middle of a clinic lobby didn't make her a hero. It just made her look unhinged.

I tilted my head, studying her. "And you are?" "These are my dogs. As their owner, I'm making a medical decision." I glanced at her name tag. "You work here, right?

So you should know the medical risks of leaving pets intact." "I—I…" Summer choked on her words. A dark, blotchy flush crawled up her neck, spreading to the tips of her ears.

The floating text shifted back to tearing me apart, branding me as an aggressive, toxic bitch. I let my eyes skim the glowing insults, absorbing them like pure praise. Aggressive?

That just meant I had the upper hand in the argument. Strike one. Toxic? That meant I was ruthless enough to get things done. Strike two.

The fact that they were throwing a digital temper tantrum meant they were completely powerless to stop me. Strike three. Flawless victory.

The tight knot in my chest actually started to loosen. Summer was still chewing on her bottom lip, her jaw working uselessly. I didn't have all day for this amateur hour.

I shifted my attention to the senior vet. "Doctor, I have a schedule to keep. Put them under, please." The older man nodded, reaching for the plastic handle of the carrier.

Summer's head snapped up. Her eyes locked onto me like she had just found a loaded gun. "Wait!" She stepped between the vet and the carrier. "Where is your proof of ownership?

For all we know, you're some sick animal abuser off the street!

Who's going to take responsibility if something happens?" The senior vet paused, his hand hovering awkwardly in midair. Sensing the hesitation, Summer puffed her chest out.

She leveled a finger at the carrier. "If these are really your dogs, you obviously know their names." She crossed her arms, her chin lifting in a blatant challenge. "Let's see it.

Call them. Let's see if they actually answer to you." Chapter 4 Of course they wouldn't answer. Silas and Maeve wouldn't make a sound to save their lives right now.

Summer knew exactly what she was doing. The glowing text erupted in a digital frenzy. [Holy shit, this is a masterclass in manipulation!

Even if Astrid knows they are the leads, there's no way the male lead will answer her when she's trying to chop his balls off!] [The System is definitely working its magic!

I knew the Chosen One wouldn't become a eunuch that easily!] They thought they had me cornered. A slow smile stretched across my face.

I tilted my head at Summer. "Are you absolutely sure?

If they answer to me, that proves they're my dogs?" Summer nodded without hesitation. "Of course!" I raised an eyebrow. "Positive?" The repetition only fed her ego.

She jutted her chin out. "Don't tell me you're backing down. If you can't prove it, I'm confiscating these animals." She reached for the plastic handle of the carrier.

I clamped my hand over her wrist, stopping her midreach. Her eyes gleamed with premature victory.

I dug my free hand into my coat pocket, pulling out a handful of complimentary beef jerky treats I'd grabbed from the reception desk. I cleared my throat.

I turned toward the crowded waiting room and shouted. "Boomer! Waffles! Apollo! Buddy!" Instant chaos. Half a dozen dogs yanked their owners across the lobby, swarming my legs.

Tails wagged furiously as wet noses nudged my hand, desperate for the jerky. Summer froze, all the color draining from her face.

I scratched a massive Golden Retriever behind the ears. I met Summer's horrified stare. "So, by your flawless logic, if they answer to the names, they're mine?

Looks like I just adopted half the clinic." I dropped a treat into the Retriever's mouth. "Summer, you clearly skipped Dog Behavior 101." I dropped the smile.

I pivoted to the stunned senior vet. "And just to clear the air.

Doctor, point out a single animal abuser who drops premium cash out of pocket to give stray dogs toptier surgical care." Summer clamped her mouth shut.

A dark, ugly red blotched her cheeks. The pet owners in the lobby didn't miss a beat. They turned on Summer. "I've been sitting here for twenty minutes.

What is wrong with your staff?" A woman holding Apollo's leash snapped. "You just accused a paying client of animal abuse with zero proof." "Do you have any idea what kind of mob you could start with a stunt like that?" A guy in a baseball cap chimed in. "Exactly," the woman with Apollo added. "My boy is terrified of strangers.

If she gave off abuser vibes, he'd be hiding under the chairs, not begging her for treats." A man whipped out his phone, pointing the camera lens straight at Summer. "Is this how this clinic operates?

Management better step in and fix this right now, or this entire interaction is going straight to TikTok." Chapter 5 The crowd's righteous anger hit Summer like a physical blow.

All the blood drained from her face, leaving her ghostwhite. The senior vet finally snapped out of his shock.

He practically tripped over himself trying to apologize. "Ma'am, I am so deeply sorry. This is a massive failure in our protocol.

I assure you, we will address this with her immediately." He swallowed hard. "To try and make things right, I'll waive fifty percent of the surgery fees for both dogs today." I'd gotten exactly what I wanted.

I didn't push it. I handed the carrier over to the vet, letting out a long, heavy sigh. "People trust you with their pets.

You cannot just launch baseless accusations at your clients.

This shouldn't ever happen again." I shook my head, my voice softening. "Especially since these two are just strays I picked up today. They don't even have names yet.

If I had to rely on her ridiculous logic to prove they were mine, I'd never clear my name." I met the vet's eyes. "Improve your training.

Prove to me this won't happen again, and I might consider setting up a foundation here." I let the words hang in the air. "I'll fund it.

Provide free medical care for strays in the city. Call it good karma for my own dogs." The shift in the lobby was instant.

The hostility aimed at the clinic dissolved into open admiration for me. I ducked my head, playing the humble philanthropist.

Inside the plastic crate, Silas was thrashing and snarling, his claws scraping uselessly against the hard plastic. A spike of pure dopamine hit my brain.

He wanted to pretend he was a stray? Fine. Getting him fixed for free was practically charity work. He should be thanking me. The vet was practically vibrating with gratitude.

He clutched the carrier like it held solid gold. "I give you my word, ma'am. They are in the best hands. I'll make sure they come out of surgery perfectly safe." I smiled.

I watched the operating room doors swing shut behind Silas. I checked my watch. Forty minutes until the Transformation Pill wore off. A standard neuter took twenty. Plenty of time.

The glowing text hovering in the air spiraled into absolute chaos. [No way! Did he actually just get wheeled into the OR?!] [The vet just pushed the anesthesia!

He's going under… this is so depressing. Is there really no way out of this?] [Where is the System?! Save him!

How can he be the Chosen One if he doesn't have balls?!] [Chill out, maybe the System is already handling it.

Summer showed up at the last second, right?] The comments bickered, scrolling past in a frantic blur.

Then, the line I was waiting for finally appeared. [Oh god, the vet actually picked up the scalpel! He's aiming right at the male lead, he's…] The sentence cut off.

I went completely still. The rhythm of the comments had shifted. A split second later, a new line of text flashed in bright red. [Wait!

The male lead's mentor is on her way!] [She's a miracle worker! She can bring people back from the dead! Reattaching a… well, you know… is nothing for her!

I knew there was a plot twist coming!] Chapter 6 A plot twist? A dry chuckle scraped my throat. Bringing the dead back to life was a godtier skill, sure.

But even a master chef couldn't cook without ingredients. Let's see his miracleworking mentor pull a brandnew set of balls out of thin air once the originals were gone.

The surgery wrapped up fast. I stared down at the neat row of stitches on the unconscious dog, a slow smile stretching across my face.

I turned to the vet and officially confirmed my pledge to fund the stray animal foundation. As I spoke, I let my gaze slide over to Summer.

I wasn't naturally vindictive, but I wasn't a saint, either. She tried to drag my name through the mud. I wasn't going to let her walk away without a scratch.

Summer's face lost whatever color it had left. Her shoulders caved inward.

The senior vet picked up on my cue instantly. "Thank you for your incredible generosity," he said smoothly. "And regarding the baseless accusations made against you, this clinic has a strict zerotolerance policy." He turned his back to me, facing Summer. "We'll mail your final paycheck.

Don't bother coming in tomorrow." The floating text erupted into absolute outrage. [Cannon fodder acting like cannon fodder. She didn't leave that poor girl any way out!

Keeping a psycho like her alive is a crime against humanity!] [Plus one! I can't wait for the male lead to wake up, avenge Summer, and teach that bitch a lesson.] [So toxic!

The kid just said a few words, is destroying her career really necessary?] I watched the insults scroll past. A faint smirk pulled at the corner of my mouth.

They thought this was ruthless? I hadn't even started yet.

After Summer dragged her feet out the door, looking completely shattered, the vet turned back to me. "Ma'am, regarding the… extracted tissue. Do you want to keep it as a souvenir?

We offer complimentary preservation jars…" "No," I cut him off, shaking my head. "My dog is pretty openminded. He won't miss a piece of dead flesh.

Just toss it in the medical waste." The floating text went dead silent for a full three seconds. Then, a massive wave of panicked male viewers exploded across my vision. [What?!

She's not keeping them?! Ahhhh, the male lead isn't whole anymore!] [Where is Carmen?! If she gets here before the hour is up and reattaches them, he can still be a man!] [Exactly!

If the timer runs out, even if they dig the parts out of the trash, the transformation is permanent. He'll never get them back!] Oh? Is that how it works? My eyes narrowed.

I immediately walked back to the counter and smoothly changed my mind, asking the vet to bag up Silas's missing pieces.

I carried the little biohazard bag straight out the front doors. I tossed it directly into the open jaws of the municipal garbage truck idling by the curb.

I stood on the sidewalk and watched the hydraulic press crush the load and drive away. A genuinely delighted smile spread across my face.

Inside the clinic, Silas's eyes snapped open at that exact moment. Whether it was his own freakish resilience or his precious System kicking in, I had no idea
